Zubaidur University of Management Sciences (ZUMS) celebrated its 6th founding anniversary on Monday paying homage to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
The university was established by the single patron Zubaidur & Nargis Rahman Foundation (ZNRF).
The event was held at the university’s Middle Badda campus, Dhaka, and was graced by the presence of ten distinguished freedom fighters who shared their gripping tales of valor and sacrifice with the university students.
The celebration kicked off with the cutting of the anniversary cake, which set the tone for inspiration and recollection.
In his welcome speech, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Zubaidur Rahman emphasized on the significance of remembering those who sacrificed their lives for country’s independence.
The celebration unfolded with the accounts of heroic freedom fighters, each provided a glimpse into their incredible experiences.
Freedom Fighter Nasir Uddin Yousuf Bachchu, the company commander of Dhaka North Muktibahini, virtually joined the programme, giving it a new twist.
He described the horrific events of the 1971 conflict, focusing especially on the violence of the notorious night of March 25. Freedom Fighter Shafiqul Islam Swapon, who is a national prize-winning photographer, talked about his fighting experiences and his audacious return to the country after guerrilla training. To a riveted audience, freedom fighter Mujibur Rahman of Sundarbans Sector 9, provided insights into the guerilla war against Pakistani forces, detailing regular force tactics and minor operations.
Freedom Fighter Jahedul Mahmud Jamee, who is also a member of the Board of Trustees, recounted the gripping details of bomb operations against the Pakistani oppressors and how they collected firearms from the Rajarbagh police station to fight against the Pakistani armies. Freedom fighter and singer Linu Billah revealed the unwavering spirit that drove her perseverance as she talked about her painful experience of torture while in captivity. Freedom Fighter Monirul Islam thanked the university on behalf of all other freedom fighters for giving them a forum to discuss their brave experiences.
The celebration ended with a cultural extravaganza hosted by the university students, marking the vast diversity and creativity within the university.
Other freedom fighters who also attended the event were Shahab Abdullah, Mizan Ahmed, Helal Taslim, and Manik Lal Samajdar.The 6th Founding Anniversary of ZNRF University stands as a powerful testimony to uniting the past with the present and inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.
