Published : 31 May 2022 08:13 PM

Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hassan Mahmud said, "Ziaur Rahman will remain in the pages of history as a murderer and traitor."

The minister said, "Ziaur Rahman has corrupted the politics of Bangladesh. Ziaur Rahman introduced the economy of corruption and looting in the economy of Bangladesh. He was one of the main masterminds of Bangabandhu's assassination. Not only that, he has killed thousands of army officers to unleash his power. That is why Ziaur Rahman will remain in the pages of history as a murderer and traitor.”

The minister made the comment while responding to a question from reporters after speaking as the chief guest at the 'Bangabandhu and Ruposhi Bangla Photo Exhibition and Honuors 2022' jointly organized by Bangladesh Photojournalists Association and Shilpakala Academy at Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday. State Minister for Culture KM Khalid and Director General of Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky were present on the occasion.

At that time, the i minister said, “BNP did not judge Zia's murder because snakes could come out digging earthworms.

BNP was in power after the assassination of Ziaur Rahman, after which Begum Khaleda Zia was in power for two terms but did not try the assassination of Ziaur Rahman.”

When asked about the recent activities of BNP, the minister said, "It is ridiculous that the BNP is holding meetings with all the so-called parties which have presidents but no one can say who the general secretary is. I don't know what will happen to all these signboards except meeting the news with all the parties, because they have nothing but signboards.”

Earlier, in a speech at the event, he said, “A picture is much stronger than a thousand words. Photojournalists work with a lot of risk, many wait day after day for a photo.

I would hope that today Bangladesh has come a long way, our per capita income has surpassed India even in the midst of Corona epidemic. In order to tell the truth to the people, under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, these images of unprecedented development of the country also need to come up in your photographs.”

State Minister for Culture KM Khalid said, "Photojournalists have played a significant role in

developing the true history of the nation by highlighting the various events and moments of the colorful life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time.

The photojournalists have inspired the future generations by capturing the documents of various events including the language movement of the Bayanna, the mass uprising of the seventies, the great liberation war of 1971, the anti-authoritarian movement of the nineties.

Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General of Shilpakala Academy presided over the function. Mini Karim, Director (Fine Arts) of the Academy, Golam Mostafa, President of Bangladesh Photojournalists Association, Kajal Hajra, General Secretary and Moin Uddin Ahmed, Convener of the event spoke on the occasion.

The guests distributed prizes and honors among the photographers.

The week-long exhibition of 100 pictures of Bangabandhu's life and work and 100 pictures of the nature of the country is open to the public every day from 11 am to 8 pm and on Friday from 3 pm to 8 pm in Gallery No. 3 of the National Gallery of Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
