The first look at Zac Efron in character from The Greatest Beer Run Ever has been revealed. Directed by Peter Farrelly (Green Book), the film is based on the memoir by John "Chick" Donohue, a former Marine, who took it upon himself to travel to Vietnam during the height of the war in order to take some beer to his friends and brighten their day. The journey in getting there was fraught with adventure as Chick goes through a "series of hilarious escapades and harrowing close calls" along the way, making for a dramatic, funny, and moving story.
Farrelly's Green Book won Best Picture at the 2019 Oscars, as well as Best Adapted Screenplay, which signaled the filmmaker's shift from a comedy director to a serious dramatic one. Farrelly is best known for the comedies he directed with his brother, Bobby Farrelly, including classics like There's Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, and Hall Pass, amongst others. He is also the creator and director of Prime Video's Loudermilk with Ron Livingston, as well as the Roku original show The Now with Dave Franco.
Today, Apple TV+ released the first look at Efron as Chick, sporting a mustache, dirty clothes, and riding inside a helicopter. The Greatest Beer Run Ever will be released on Apple TV+ as an original film for the streamer as part of their 2022 slate. The film co-stars Russell Crowe, Kyle Allen, Bill Murray, Jake Picking, Will Hochman, and Archie Renaux and is adapted by Farrelly, Brian Hayes Currie, and Pete Jones.
Efron's career kicked off with the popular Disney musical series High School Musical, but he has since graduated on to blockbuster comedies, indie dramas, and even a reality show. The actor featured prominently in comedies like Neighbors with Seth Rogen and Baywatch with Dwayne Johnson, but cut his acting teeth on indie fare like Lee Daniels' The Paperboy and Netflix's Ted Bundy film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Efron is currently appearing in the post-apocalyptic thriller Gold and will next be seen in the latest adaptation of Stephen King's Firestarter, as well as a new adaptation of Three Men and a Baby for Disney. -Just Jared
