Youths urged to play role in raising awareness about environment

Art competition for children and teenagers on the occasion of the World Environment Day-2024 was held on the theme of 'Nature and Environment' on Friday 

Department of Environment organised the art competion at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's National Chitrashala Plaza.

In the event, the youth were called upon to play a role in raising awareness about the environment.

In the competition, under 8 years in Group A; 8 to under 12 years in Group B; Children and adolescents from 12 to under 16 years of age and under 18 years of special needs group participated in Group C.

The competition saw the enthusiastic participation of young artists, their creativity and awareness about environmental conservation.

Prizes will be awarded to three winners in each of the four groups. The names of the winners will be announced on May 21.

Director General of the Department of Environment Abdul Hamid was the chief guest at the event.

He said the artworks highlighted the importance of nature and the urgent need to protect our environment. Youth can play an important role in raising environmental awareness.

Youth have a role to play in building a sustainable future. He encouraged them to continue their efforts to increase environmental awareness.

The Additional Director General of environment department evaluated the pictures drawn by children and teenagers in the drawing competition. Eminent painter Siddiqur Rahman, Syed Abul Barak Alvi, former professor of fine art department of Dhaka University, Shilpyakala Academy Director Syeda Mahbooba Karim and Shilpyakala Academy Deputy Director Khandaker Rezaul Hashem and others were present.
