Agriculture Minister and Awami League presidium member Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak received RTV Agriculture Medal lifetime achievement award for special contribution in agriculture.
He was honored by the RTV NRBC Agriculture Medal for his contribution to the development of agriculture and food security in the country, especially for maintaining the continuity of success in agriculture and modernization of agriculture through timely decision making in agriculture during Corona epidemic.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim and RTV Chairman Morshed Alam handed over the Lifetime Achievement Medal to the Agriculture Minister at Pan Pacific Hotel Sonargaon in the capital on Tuesday.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, the Agriculture Minister said, “The aim of the government is to commercialize agriculture. We want educated, especially urban youth to come forward in agriculture and invest in commercial agriculture. Then there will be a transition from subsistence farming to commercial farming. The country will export various agricultural products worldwide. The younger generation will earn huge income from agricultural products. Utilizing the immense potential of agriculture will turn the country into a prosperous Bangladesh.”
An award-winning horticulturist shared his practical experience with the harmful aspects of the eucalyptus tree. In this context, the Agriculture Minister said that measures will be taken to ensure that no one in the country plants eucalyptus trees which are harmful to crops and environment. Necessary steps will be taken to cut down the eucalyptus trees at the request of all concerned.
It may be mentioned that RTV has been awarding Agriculture Medal since last year to recognize and encourage the contribution of farmers, farm researchers, scientists and extension workers involved in agriculture of the country. This year eight persons and two organizations have been given this medal in 10 categories.
Thanking RTV for taking this initiative, the Minister further said that everyone should come forward to give such awards in the field of agriculture. Today 10 individuals and organizations have been awarded. But through this, millions of farmers, cultivators and entrepreneurs of the country will be more encouraged in agriculture.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sham Rezaul Karim addressed the function as a special guest. Among others, RTV Chairman Morshed Alam, Managing Director Humayun Kabir, Chief Executive Officer Syed Ashiq Rahman, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam, NRBC Bank Chairman Parvez Tamal spoke on the occasion.
