Police on Saturday arrested four including two females for allegedly cutting off the tongue of a youth, and beating him up at Foringa village in Dhamrai of Dhaka, on the outside of the capital on Friday evening.
The victim was later taken to Savar’s Enam Medical College Hospital and a case was filed with Dhamrai police station in this regard. Atiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Dhamrai police station confirmed the matter on Sunday morning.
The arrestees were identified as Shafiqul Islam, 40, his wife Anowara Begum, 38, their daughter Sharmeen, 22, and son Faruk, 20, all are hailing from Foringa village of Dhamrai. On the other hand, the victim youth was identified as Saifur Rahman, 32, son of Md. Rahmat Ali, hailed from the same area. According to the case statement, the accused Shafiqul had borrowed taka sixty thousand from Saifur a few months back. Later Saifur pressured Shafiqul to refund the money as he did not refund the money as per condition. Following the issue, Saifur had an altercation with Shafiqul on Friday afternoon. The statement further stated that the accused Shafiqul later asked Saifur to g his home to take the money. Afterwards, the accused were beaten up Saifur and cut off his tongue, when he went to their house to take the owed money on Friday night.

Locals, however, said that there was a love relation ongoing between Saifur and Sharmeen for long. Basically, Sharmeen cut off Saifur’s tongue calling him to her house, as he did not marry her despite promising her multiple times. Although Bangladesh Post could not take the accused comments as they were in police custody.
Dhamrai OC said, victim’s father filed a case with the station on Saturday night, and later police arrested the accused and produced them before a Dhaka court on Sunday.
