When all are said to be forgetting the ethics and values in the tide of so called urbanization and modern culture, a group of young men and women in remote villages of Jhenaidah have come forward with their humanitarian services for the ailing and disadvantaged people. Even upon receiving a phone call, the youths have been appearing there to respond with their services.
Some renowned physicians and personalities staying at Dhaka have been extending their cooperation towards the services with blood donation, treatment of critical heart diseases, trauma patients, burn injury, road mishaps victims and people fallen victim of burn incidents. They have been also assisting the poor to buy auto rickshaw-van for their survival round the clock under a banner Raktadata Sangha.
Sazzadul Islam, 30, and his wife Lipi Khatun, 26, when contacted at their house at Kumiradah village, about 15 kilometres from Shailkupa upazila headquarters said their lone girl child Samiya Ferdous was born with a leakage at one of her heart. Although the poor family members have tried their best for her treatment, could not ensure the surgery of their three-year girl.
When the activists of Raktadata Sangha were informed, they took the family members at Dhaka and conducted a success surgery with two of the renowned physicians of the country at national institute of cardiology free of cost. The valve was managed with the kindness of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Now the child age about four has been leading normal life, Sazzadul-Lipi couple said. Moderator Indrojit Biswas said he had donated blood for five times in last 20 months. He had donated blood for another five times when he was studying in the University.
Samrat Hossain and Habibur Rahman, two giants of Raktadata Sangha when contacted said they founded the organization with some of the students studying in colleges and universities in September of 2000 aiming at provide blood support for the ailing people. Initially they started voluntary services including help the poor and destitute people in the locality.
As they received tremendous respond from the people in Jhenaidah and other areas to expand the services like assist other patients suffering from heart complications, road mishap victims and fire victims. The organization had supported a poor family with an auto-van for an amount of Taka two lakh when the earning member (father) had died due to illness.
To make the people aware and ensure health services at their doorsteps, the organization activists conduct health camp, heart camp, eye camp, blood donation and grouping campaigns and so in the locality. Local health department authorities extend their utmost cooperation to make the camp and campaigns a success, they added.
According to Samrat Hossain, chief advisor Habibur Rahman, moderators Imran Mollah, Indrojit Biswas, Shaon Islam Rehan and Shikhan Khan, they feel proud to stand by the ailing and destitute people in their need as huge people have been leading inhuman life for want of money and assistances.
9,500 activists were connected in face-book, while another 500 in messenger group for respond. About 1,500 volunteers were ready in database to meet the demand of the people always. 1,154 activists of Raktadata Sangha had so far donated blood free of any cost, they added.
Habibur Rahman informed associate professor of burn and plastic surgery unit of Dhaka medical college and hospital Dr. Nasir Uddin and nationally reputed cardiac specialist professor Dr. Mohammad Shahjahan have been rendering their cordial cooperation and services to make all the activities staying at Dhaka. Another eminent personality Khondaker Atiquzzaman has been also assisting with his all-out cooperation since the inception of the organization. Now they do not bother for any hassle here and there.
A number of local people at Fatfazilpur, Kumiradah, Kamanna and Abaipur when contacted said the Raktadata Sanga activists appear before them as comet when someone makes a phone call. They are really saviors to the people, they mean.
Retired joint secretary of the Election Commission (EC), veteran freedom fighter Biswas Lutfar Rahman when contacted had praised the activities of the youths. He said the Raktadata Sanga activists have been rendering voluntary services round the clock without considering their personal interest which still knocks the people about humanity, ethics and values when the society was almost by some so called social leaders and patriots.
