A mobile court sentenced a youth to two months’ imprisonment on charge of teasing a high school girl at Chowmuhoni Bazar under Dhamsreni Union in Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Kazi Mahmudur Rahman passed the verdict.
The accused was identified as Dulal Mia, 24, son of Monir Mia, resident of Fokir Para in Hatiya Vobesh Mouza. He works at a hotel in Chowmuhoni Bazar.
It was learnt that the accused Dulal tried to sexually harass a student of tenth grade at Chowmuhoni Bazar on Tuesday evening. Later, the people of the area caught him and informed the police. On information, Sub-Inspector of Ulipur Police Station Mashiur Rahman rushed to the spot. Later, a mobile court was conducted at Chowmuhoni Bazar at around 10:30pm and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kazi Mahmudur Rahman found the accused guilty and passed the verdict.
Officer-in-Charge of Ulipur Police Station Golam Mortuza said the convicted youth was sent to jail that night.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Kazi Mahmudur Rahman said this kind of activities of mobile court will continue to prevent eve teasing and public nuisance in order to ensure the safety of school and college going students and the public.
