A mentally challenged youth was killed as the Dhaka bound Maitree Express hit him at Chotodudhpatila rail gate in Haoli Union under Damurhuda Upazila of Chuadanga on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Alamin Hossain, 29, son of Jhantu Ali Sardar, resident of Doctor Para area under Dihi Krishnapur village in Damuhuda Upazila.
The accident occurred around 11:30 am when the Dhaka bound Maitree Express coming from Kolkata reached Chotodudhpatila rail gate. Local sources said Alamin Hossain tried to cross the unprotected rail gate when the Dhaka bound Maitree Express reached there. The train hit him at that time, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police from Damurhuda Model Police Station and Darshana Railway Police visited the spot. After the visit, Darshana Railway Police conducted the inquest report and took the body for autopsy. Officer-in-Charge of Darshana Halt Station Railway Police Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter. He said that a youth died as the Dhaka bound Maitree Express coming from Kolkata hit him. Legal procedure is under way.
