A man was killed as a train hit him at a rail crossing in Brahmanbaria on Tuesday. He was riding a motorcycle at that time.
The deceased was identified as Adil Mia, 32, former leader of district unit Chhatra Dal, son of Jaher Mia, resident of Puniaut area in Brahmanbaria town.
Two other youths, Md Rubel Mia and Afsan Jubayed, were also injured at that time.
The incident occurred in Chinair Noabari rail gate area under Machihata union in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila at around 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
Locals and the police said the Chattogram bound Chattala Express, coming from Dhaka, was crossing an unguarded level crossing in Chinair area. At that time, Md Adil Mia was returning to Brahmanbaria town with two of his friends riding on a motorcycle. When the train reached the unguarded level crossing, it hit the motorcycle. The motorcycle was crushed as a result. The train ran over motorcycle rider Adil and he died on the spot. Rubel and Afsan Jubayed were injured at that time. They were receiving treatment at Brahmanbaria 250-bed General Hospital. The doctors said among the two injured, Rubel is in critical condition.
Meanwhile, former district Chhatra Dal convener Md Fuzael Choudhury and former district Chhatra Dal member secretary Md Mohsin Hridoy, along with Chhatra Dal leaders and activists rushed to Brahmanbaria 250-bed General Hospital hearing the death news of their former colleague. They expressed grief at the death of Adil.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akhaura Police Station Jashim Uddin Khandakar confirmed the matter. He said the body of the deceased was recovered. The injured are receiving treatment in Brahmanbaria 250-bed General Hospital, he added.
