A group of young men committed a horrifying crime when they slashed their friend's throat and took his autorickshaw in order to pay for their Eid festivities. Police arrested four members of a youth gang involved in this brutal incident in South Keraniganj.
The victim, Shawon, an auto-rickshaw driver, is now battling for his life with severe injuries. According to police, the attack occurred in Swapnadhara Model Town on the night of June 12. Responding to a 999 call, officers found Shawon with a cut throat. Though initially thought to be dead, he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered he was still alive but in critical condition.
Using technology, police swiftly tracked down and arrested four suspects. During interrogation, the suspects revealed they targeted Shawon's auto-rickshaw to get money for Eid festivities. Their leader, Shakil, alias Hatchka Shakeel, led the gang. On the night of the crime, they hired Shawon's auto-rickshaw and took him to a secluded area before attacking him and fleeing with the vehicle.
Dhaka Police Superintendent Asaduzzaman said to the media, "After learning about the incident, we quickly rescued the victim and took him to the hospital. Through his account, we identified and arrested four suspects, who have confessed to the crime."
He added that the gang had prior enmity with Shawon, further complicating the motive behind the auto theft. Shawon remains in critical condition in the ICU of a private hospital, fighting for his life.
