In a powerful statement, Nahid Islam, Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, declared that a generational shift is underway in Bangladesh.

Speaking at the National Youth Day 2024 celebration on Friday at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, he emphasised that the youth are charting a new course for the nation. This generation, which envisioned a transformed Bangladesh through the July uprising, is poised to lead across various sectors, including the economy.

Nahid Islam noted that the youth are capturing global attention. He remarked, "They have shown the world a new direction through the July uprising. The world is now eager to see where this youthful energy will take Bangladesh."

He stressed the importance of harnessing the enthusiasm and determination of young people. "If we tap into their spirit, Bangladesh will undoubtedly progress. During the July uprising, we faced a choice: fight for our homeland or succumb to death. Our struggle continues, and we are committed to safeguarding our motherland and standing proud on the world stage."

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Labour and Employment, echoed this sentiment in his keynote address. He announced plans to create 5,00,000 jobs in the public sector over the next two years, highlighting the importance of youth in the workforce.

“Youth is the best phase of life and the most valuable part of our human resources,” he said. “This demographic dividend is vital for our economy. Our interim government is working to prepare job-seeking youth to become valuable human resources.”

After their speeches, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud visited a youth fair organised for the occasion. During the event, 12 successful self-employed individuals and three outstanding youth organisers received the National Youth Award 2024.
