Yeahia Akhter appointed CU VC

Chittagong University (CU) has selected Professor Muhammad Yeahia Akhter as its new vice-chancellor (VC). The Ministry of Education issued an official notice today (18 September) confirming his appointment, which was approved by the President and Chancellor.

Professor Akhter, a retired faculty member of CU’s Political Science Department, will be the 20th vice-chancellor. His appointment will take effect once he formally assumes the role. He will receive the same salary and benefits as his previous position, alongside other allowances in accordance with university rules.

The announcement was confirmed by KM Noor Ahmed, the university’s acting registrar, who shared that the decision was made after careful deliberation by the Ministry of Education.

Professor Akhter has been associated with Chittagong University since 1982, serving as a faculty member in the Political Science Department. His academic journey includes earning a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a master's degree in Political Science from Rajshahi University (RU). Additionally, he holds a second master’s degree from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and a PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia. With his extensive experience and academic background, Professor Akhter is expected to guide Chittagonj University with strong leadership during his tenure as the VC.
