Writ filed seeking ban on AL

A writ petition has been filed at the High Court seeking a ban on the Awami League and cancellation of its registration due to the party's involvement in the indiscriminate killings of student protesters during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan, executive director of rights organization Sarada Society, filed the petition on Monday.

The hearing on this petition might take place before the bench of Justices A.K.M. Asaduzzaman and Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam.

The petition named the secretary to the Cabinet, chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, secretary of the Law Ministry, secretary of the Election Commission, secretary of the Bank and Financial Institutions Division, chairman of the National Board of Revenue, governor of 

Bangladesh Bank, head of the BFIU, and the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement as respondents.

Arifur Rahman stated that the petition also requested a directive to extend the tenure of the current interim government to a minimum of three years and to recover Tk 11 lakh crore embezzled abroad.
