The UK government's COP26 Regional Ambassador to Asia-Pacific and South Asia Ken O'Flaherty has said that Bangladesh has been doing remarkably well in its action against climate change.
He said that the world wants to learn from Bangladesh’s' experiences in fight against climate change.
The UK government's COP26 Regional Ambassador made the remark in a bilateral meeting with Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin, held at the conference room of the ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.
Recently Bangladesh’s submission of a commendable NDC has attracted Britain's attention.
The UK government's COP26 Regional Ambassador said that the UK appreciate Bangladesh's role in raising voice against global climate change.
He also said that Britain expects an exemplary declaration from Bangladesh government which will encourage regional countries.
“Britain is working hard to find a practical solution to climate change in COP26. The United Kingdom has given assurance to double its contribution to fight climate assistance. Britain will also provide necessary assistance to Bangladesh in terms of climate change actions,” he said.
The Environment Minister, during the discussion meeting, said that the work of Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (BCCSAP) update and formulation of NAP is being finalised.
“Bangladesh has formulated the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan 2030. The country has submitted an updated NDC by tripling its target to reduce carbon emission. Bangladesh will enhance its contribution further if assisted with necessary funds and technology. We expect an effective outcome from the COP26,” he said.
The British High Commissioner in Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Mostafa Kamal, Additional Secretary (Administration) Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary (Development) Ahmed Shamim Al Razi, Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Md Mizanul Hoque Chowdhury and Additional Secretary of Climate Change wing Sanjay Kumar Bhowmick were present during this time, along with others.
