World Mental Health Day-2023 celebrated with the theme 'Mental health is a universal human right' various programs were celebrated throughout the day by the Department of Psychology of Chittagong University (CU).
On this occasion, Professor Benu Kumar Dey, Pro VC (Academic) of Chittagong University was present as a special guest and inaugurated the colourful rally by flying a dove symbol of peace at CU Bangabandhu Square on Tuesday morning and participated in the rally. Professor Dr. Md. Tauhid Hossain, Dean of CU Faculty of Biology, was present as a special guest. CU Teachers Association General Secretary Professor Abdul Haque, CU Registrar (Acting) KM Noor Ahmad, CU Psychology Department President Dr.Rumana Akhtar and faculty-students of the said department, CU Chief Medical Officer (Acting) Dr. Mohammad Abu Taiyab, CU Officers Association leaders and officials were present.
The rally circles the CU campus. Laylun Nahar, Associate Professor of CU Department of Psychology presided over the inaugural function.
CU Pro VC said, just as if the body is not good, the mind is not good, similarly, if the mind is not good, the body is also not good. Body and mind are intimately related, one complementary to the other'.
He said, for the protection of mental health, it is necessary to live a tidy life. Especially sleeping on time, eating right, hanging out with friends on time, focusing on sports, entertainment and cultural activities etc. can play an important role in protecting mental health. Mental problems should be identified and regular counselling should be done to bring the mentally challenged people back to a healthy life. In order to keep our talented students mentally strong, apart from education, we should make them more aware through regular counselling.
A workshop held was presented by Clinical Psychologist TamimaTanzin of Dhaka University Rokeya Hall and Assistant Professor of Psychology Department of Chittagong University Dr. Md. Shahinur Rahman and Clinical Psychologist Consultant Tofa Hakim spoke as resource persons on the topic of 'Preventing Suicide by Improving Mental Health and Psychological Well-Being'.
