Meditation is a method of training your brain to focus on one thing and redirect all your thoughts to the subject you are thinking about. Over a past few decades, the popularity of meditation has grown significantly among the people of all ages.
The key reason is that people now realise meditation has both physical and mental health benefits that are sustained for a long period. Some people want to increase their self-awareness while others want to reduce stress.
But nowadays the vast majority of people use mediation to boost self-confidence, develop a positive outlook on life, improve their sleep, and even enhance their pain tolerance.
World Meditation Day will be celebrated in Bangladesh and elsewhere across the globe today (Tuesday) through various programmes. Quantum Foundation has chalked out elaborate programmes, marking the day.
A special programme will be organised on the National Press Club premises from 6:00 am to 7:00 am. Journalists, media personalities, doctors, teachers, students, businessmen, housewives and people from all walks of life are expected to attend the hour-long event. A rhyme and storytelling competition has been organised for children on the occasion of the day.
Quantum Foundation has also published a special bulletin, highlighting the importance and benefits of meditation. The country’s people, including residents of Dhaka, will meditate at 6:00 am apart from expatriate Bangladeshis living in different countries in Europe and America.
The importance of meditation in developing self-strength, curing diseases, and achieving success or peace is now a proven fact. Regular practice awakens the positive thing within a person. Regular practice reduces anger, sadness, depression, tension and physical or mental stress. Attitude changes from negativity to positivity. The mind becomes congruent. With such practical effectiveness, meditation has become an alternative method of healing, a surefire way to success, and a go-to-technique for relaxation around the world. In keeping pace with the world, millions of people in Bangladesh are making their lives meaningful by doing meditation.
Heart disease, cancer, lung complications, liver cirrhosis and other diseases are rooted in tension or stress. Meditation is now popular worldwide for stress relief. Doctors in hundreds of US hospitals are training patients in yoga and meditation as a preventative measure to combat stress.
Professor Dr. Herbert Benson, founder of Mind Body Medical Institute in Boston, in his book 'Breakout Principle' explains how a person can peak mental abilities by relaxing mind.
This year's theme of the day is 'Good people, good country, heavenly Bangladesh'.
It is the demand of time to spread meditation among the masses aiming to turn the country into a paradise with good thinking, good speaking and doing good.
Through regular practice, meditation will eventually spread from house to house, including educational institutions. And with regular practice, the country will turn into a healthy, active, disciplined and humane society.
