The World Meditation Day was celebrated on the open beach of Cox's Bazar on Tuesday.
Over a hundred of people of different ages, including government officials, media personalities, doctors, teachers, students, lawyers, businessmen and housewives, participated in the hour-long event.
The day was celebrated at the initiative of Quantum Foundation Cox's Bazar Cell at Sugandha Point of Cox's Bazar beach around 6:00am.
Anwar Hossain Sarkar, Divisional Forest Officer of Cox's Bazar North Forest Division who took part in the meditation, said meditation is an exercise of the mind. Specific practice of sitting in silence increases focus and awareness. In addition to increasing feelings of calmness and happiness, deep self-absorption awakens self-power from within and this awakening of the mind can have a positive effect on the overall life, he said.
A children's rhyme and story competition was organised centrally on the occasion of the day. In addition, Quantum has published special bulletins on the importance and benefits of meditation.
People all over the country, including in the capital, took part in the meditation programme at 6:00am while Bangladeshi expatriates also meditated in different places outside the country, including Europe, America and France, on the day.
The thyme of this year’s Meditation Day is ‘Valo Manush, Valo Desh, Swargobhumi Bangladesh’ (Good People, Good Country, Paradise Bangladesh).
