World Children’s Day today

The Government of Bangladesh observes World Children's Day on the first Monday of October every year. 

Like every year this day will be celebrated across the country today and at the same time, Child Rights Week will be observed till October 10 with the aim of making all those involved in child rights, protection and development of children more enterprising and aware.

The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has undertaken various programmes to celebrate World Children's Day and Children's Rights Week with due dignity across the country. The theme of World Children's Day 2021 is 'Invest for Children, Build a Prosperous World'.

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion.

The President, in his message, said “Children are the future of the nation. They will lead the society and the state in the coming days. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamed of building a prosperous Bangladesh for children. He guaranteed the rights of children in the 1972 constitution. In 1974, 15 years before the United Nations declared the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1979, Bangabandhu enacted the Children's Act to protect the rights of children.” 

He added that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of the Father of the Nation, has been adopting and implementing various laws, policies and action plans for the establishment of education, nutrition, protection and rights of children.

The Prime Minister, in her message, said “Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Unicef, local and international development organizations have organized various programmes on the occasion of World Children's Day and Child Rights Week. These include drawing competitions with the participation of children, cultural programs and awareness meetings, discussion meetings and painting competitions with the participation of underprivileged and street children, cultural programs for children with special needs and webinars.”

The message added that campaigns on child development, prevention of child marriage, protection and rights, national level policy dialogue sessions, debate competitions will also be held.
