Preparations are underway to set up a world-class and attractive packing house and accredited lab on two acres of land in Purbachal of Dhaka, said Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque.
He said, “The present government is determined to increase the export of agricultural products. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allotted two acres of land in Purbachal to the Ministry of Agriculture to increase processing and export of agricultural products. A world-class and eye-catching packing house and accredited lab will be established there. We are working for that. It will play a huge role in the agricultural development of the country and the export of agricultural products will increase to a large extent.”
The minister made the remarks at the conference room of the agriculture ministry at the Secretariat on Wednesday during the consultant's presentation ceremony for setting up the packing house and lab.
The Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations are working together to set up a world-class and eye-catching packing house and accredited lab in Purbachal.
An experienced consultant from France, appointed by FAO presented his presentation on the subject virtually.
The consultant presented his proposals on various issues including physical infrastructure, equipment, manpower, training, and probable cost required for setting up an international standard packing house and accredited lab.
Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Md Sayedul Islam, Additional Secretary Md Abdur Rauf, Kamala Ranjan Das, Hasanuzzaman Kallol, Md Ruhul Amin Talukder, Balai Krishna Hazra, other senior officials of the ministry and FAO Bangladesh representative Robert D Simpson was present during this time.
