Police recovered seven bodies and rescued two fishermen from Seagull point off Cox’s Bazar coast on Wednesday morning. The fishermen met their tragic end as they went to the sea for fishing defying met office order on inclement weather, said sources. Identities of the dead persons could not be known immediately, however the two rescued fishermen were identified as as Md Jewel, 25, and Monir Ahmed Maji, 35 of Charfashion upazila of Bhola district.
Tourist police sources said receiving information from local people about the floating trawler they came with the district police to rescue it. After searching inside the trawler they recovered two bodies and rescued two other persons. The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model thana said.
Cox’s Bazar sadar thana officer-in-charge Md. Khairuzzaman said two bodies found inside the trawler and four others were floating in the bay water. According the statement of the rescued persons they were total 15 fishermen left Bhola for catching fish in the deep-sea few days ago and caught by heavy storm on Sunday morning.
Their trawler capsized as its engine went out of order. They fought several days with strong cyclonic storm and high tide in the sea. They found them in the coast when the trawler got stranded in the Cox’s bazaar coast this morning. The sea remained rough for the last few days and tide water is flowing above the normal level.
Organizing secretary of the Cox’s Bazar District Boat Owners’ Association Mostaq Ahmed said fishing remained suspended for 65 days in the bay. So no trawler is going to the bay. But the fishermen went to the sea defying the government order. He called for bringing the owner of the trawler to book and taking necessary steps for rescue the missing fishermen. Earlier police suspected that all the fishermen and trawler came afloat from Myanmar in cyclonic storm.
