Woman’s body found in Kulik river in Thakurgaon

Police recovered the body of a woman from Kulik River in Ranisankail upazila of Thakurgaon district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Rajia Begum, 60, wife of Abdus Samad, resident of Nanuduar village in the Upazila.

The body was recovered on Monday morning while it was floating on Kulik River in Baksha Sundarpur area in Bachor union of the upazila. 

Jayant Kumar Saha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ranisankail police station confirmed the matter.

Locals said, the dead woman was a disabled person. Razia Begum disappeared from her home on Sunday. Later, the locals found her body floating on the river on Monday. On information, police reached the spot and recovered the body from the river.

Police said they need to investigate further regarding the death. This type of incident is not expected at all. If the woman had committed suicide or drowned in the river, she should have clothes on her body. However, there were no clothes. There might be bigger issues there. An unnatural death (UD) case were filed at the police station in connection with this incident.

OC Jayant Kumar Saha said that the family did not file any complaint regarding the death of the woman. If the family members apply to the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) for the burial of the woman, the body will be handed over with the permission of the ADM.
