Police recovered a slaughtered body of a middle-aged woman from the west side of the Agricultural Institute located in Dhotra village of Dhankora Union of Saturia Upazila of Manikganj on Saturday noon.
Manowar Hossain, the first husband of the victim has been picked to the police station for questioning in this connection.
The deceased was identified as Sharmin Akhtar (30), daughter of Abdul Mannan of Burundi village of Dhankora union in the same police station.
Quoting the deceased family and villagers, officer in Charge (OC) of Saturiapolice station Md. Shafiqur Rahaman Molla said that the deceased was married to a man named Manwar about 15 years ago. It is known that she was involved in an extramarital affair with another person named Ratan of Dhamrai Upazila for 5 years and got married a month ago and started a family.
The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately. However, previous enmity might be the reason behind the killing, the OC added.
On information, the police recovered the slaughtered body from the spot at about 12.00pm and sent it to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Manowar, the first husband of the deceased said, "I was supposed to remarry with Sharmin today (Saturday) afternoon". But in the afternoon, the local people found the slaughtered body of Sharmin on the side of the road. Later we went to the spot and identified Sharmin's body. I also want justice for Sharmin's murder.
A case is under process, the OC said adding police are investigating the murder with priority basis.
