A total of 13 types of winter vegetable seeds have been distributed among 2000 farmers of Ishwardi upazila of Pabna and seven unions. These seeds are distributed free of cost to the affected small and marginal farmers to compensate for the potential flood damage under the agricultural incentive program in Kharif-2 season in FY 2020-21.
Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture Extension Department organized the seed distribution ceremony on Wednesday noon. Ishwardi UNO PM Imrul Kayes presided over the discussion held on the occasion in the hall room of the nursery office of the Upazila Kushi Extension Department.
Acting Chairman of Upazila Parishad Abdus Salam Khan addressed as the chief guest. Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdul Latif and Agriculture Extension Officer Mahmuda Motmainna spoke as special guests.
Thirteen types of winter vegetable seeds were distributed to 2,000 small and marginal farmers in seven unions and municipal areas of the upazila. These seeds include 50 gms of red spinach, 50 gms of datashak, 50 gms of kalmisha, 50 gms of mulashak, 50 gms of puishak, 100 gms of spinach, 3 gms of cucumber hybrid, 5 gms of gourd hybrid, 5 gms of sweet pumpkin hybrid, 5 gms of kala hybrid, 10 gms of karala hybrid Grams, barbati hybrid 10 grams and beans 50 grams.
Abdus Salam Khan, the chief guest at the meeting, said there is no alternative to vegetables to meet the nutritional needs of the human body. The soil of our country is very fertile.
As soon as the vegetable seeds are spread in the soil, it grows effortlessly. Therefore, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed that not even an inch of land should remain uncultivated. He sincerely urged all the farmers present to sow the seeds in the provided land.
