The supply of winter vegetables has risen noticeably in the markets of Sylhet district. As a result, prices of the winter vegetable have started declining.
The prices of all types of vegetables have come down more or less but the prices of tomatoes have gone up instead.
On Monday, visiting various vegetable markets in Sylhet city it was seen that the supply of various winter vegetables including radish, bottle gourd spinach, red spinach, cucumber, gourd, cauliflower, cabbage, bean, tomato etc have grown a lot.
Red beans are being sold at Tk 40-50 per kg while, green beans are being sold at Tk 70. Tomatoes are being sold at Tk 70-80 last week but this week it is being sold at Tk 75-75 per kg.

Besides, cabbage is being sold at Tk 25 per kg, cauliflower at Tk 40-50 per kg and radish at Tk 25 per kg. Each medium sized gourd is being sold at Tk 40 while, gourd spinach, red spinach and radish spinach are being sold at Tk 5 per bunch.
Meanwhile, papaya is being sold at Tk 20 per kg, Chichinga at Tk 35 per kg while, potato, Barbati and Jhinga are being sold at Tk 40 per kg. Green bananas are selling at Tk 75 per dozens. Vegetable seller Kamrul Islam said prices have come down due to high supply of winter vegetables in the market. Buyers are also demanding new vegetables. So the sales are going well.
Lawyer Yamin Chowdhury, who came to the market on Monday, said that the prices are within common people’s reach as there are enough winter vegetables in the market. “I was able to buy fresh winter vegetables within the budget this week”, he added.
