Wife strangled in Kabirhat, husband arrested

Laila Akhter Rupali, 19, was strangled to death by her husband Yusuf Nabi Rubel, 28, in Ghoshbagh union of Noakhali's Kabirhat upazila. The locals arrested Rubel along with the knife used in the murder and handed him over to the police.

Police recovered the body from the house of Abu Taher Babul member of East Sonadia village on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Laili Akter Rupali, daughter of Siraj Miah of Chowkidar Bari in Fatehjangpur village under Ward 3 of Kabirhat municipality. Detained Yusuf Nabi Rubel is the son of Siraj Miah of East Sonadia village.

According to local sources, Rubel and Rupali got married about 3 months ago. Since the marriage, they have had several quarrels over various family issues. As a result, they started arguing again around 3 am on Saturday.

At one point, Rubel tied Rupali's hands and feet with a veil and slaughtered her with a fruit-cutting knife. Rubel's mother, who was in the next room, heard Rupali's roar and came forward. When she saw the bloody corpse, she shouted.

Kabirhat police officer in charge (OC) said. Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter and said that the body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Noakhali General Hospital with 250 beds for autopsy.

The husband of the deceased has been arrested and the slaughtered knife has been recovered.

The victim's father has filed a murder case.

The OC also said that Rubel had confessed to killing Rupali during preliminary interrogation.

He also said that he did everything alone from the beginning to the end of the murder.
