As a pioneering private university, American International University, Bangladesh (AIUB) has always been committed to imparting ethics, values, morality and creativity among its students as the larger concerns of society. The curriculum for English has been designed and intended to provide general knowledge and to develop intellectual capacities for all.
The Department of English at AIUB offers a four-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English degree in eight consecutive semesters with a 120 credit-hour UGC approved curriculum. These credits are divided into three areas:
General Education Courses,
English Core Courses,
English Major Courses.
Students must complete 48 credits of general education (16courses), 42 credits of core (14 courses) and 30 credits of electives (10 courses – including ‘Teaching Practicum’).

Special Feature of BA in English Programme
Students have the unique privilege to go for double majors (like, Majors in Literature and TEFL) or one Major and one minor (like, Major in Language and Linguistics and Minor in Literature). Even, they have the opportunity to take Minors from other FASS disciplines like Media and Mass Communication or Economics.

Language Lab
The high-tech language lab is used to train and acquaint students with the standard use of English language.
Teaching Practicum
After completion of the course work, students are required to teach in English classrooms in different educational institutions at primary/secondary levels and submit reports.
Special Counseling
Each weak students who need extra counseling regarding his/her courses has to be assigned under a particular teacher of the Department for academic and other help.
Regular Seminar, Conference and presentation
Seminar and presentation by teachers is a regular feature of this Department. Many International Conferences are also organized by the Department.
