James Gunn, director of the upcoming MCU movie ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, has responded to a fan's tweet regarding him directing ‘Loki’ season 2. Gunn recently directed ‘The Suicide Squad’, which released in theaters and on HBO Max in August. While the film was received well by critics and audiences, it did not perform well at the box office. Gunn picked up this film after being fired (then quickly rehired) from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, which is now his next project in the works. Marvel Studios recently moved around some movie release dates, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's release date was unaffected.

‘Loki’ season 1 followed what happened to ‘Loki’ (Tom Hiddleston) after he grabbed the Tesseract in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. This sent him on a wild path in a new timeline while also exploring the vast Marvel multiverse. He was captured by the Time Variance Authority and forced to work with Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) to stop a variant ‘Loki’ named Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino). By the end of the show, ‘Loki’had to deal with his and Sylvie's encounter with He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), which led to the multiverse breaking. After ‘Loki’, the MCU has now seemed to shift its focus toward the Marvel multiverse, with such projects as ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ dealing with it too.
Now, Gunn has talked about directing Loki season 2 since the show's previous director, Kate Herron, is stepping down. The tweet that Gunn responded to was from a fan asking if he would take the job. He responded to the fan, saying he was too busy but that he had faith in Marvel Studios to find Herron's replacement.
