The people including farmers and students of at least 12 villages including Toilkupi village under Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah have been suffering badly when the two and a half kilometer earth road could not be developed as a meta one when the government has been working to ensure roads and other communications development in each and every remote villages towards a better country,
The authorities even in 50 years after independence war in 1971, failed to construct any bridge over once mighty Begabati River at one since the Goalbari Riverghat, for crossing the river.
As a result the farmers have been moving more than double roads spending additional money and time during selling of the produces in the upazila level markets. They also face troubles when they bring the harvested crops from the fields. The commoners have been facing the same troubles and the students of different educational institutions barred from going to their learning centres during the monsoon.
Locals said the authorities had constructed about one kilometer of the two and a half kilometer brick soling roads in 2017-18 fiscal which was damaged within a short time. Since then the hundreds of patholes and minor ditches made the road muddy. No traffic vehicles can ply on the road for eight months a year.
Further, the unsmooth road also turns unfit even in dry season. A number of local elected representatives said the leaders in the upazila including the incumbent lawmaker had assured them of making the road metal before the parliamentary elections all along, which they forget faster.
A number of local students when contacted said they face trouble during the monsoon badly when the road turns muddy. The female students stop attending classes as they fallen victim of untold sufferings. They said, not only the road at Telkupi village, they also suffer when the authorities did not construct a bridge over once mighty Begabati River at Goalbari point. The people cross the river on a bamboo made narrowed Sako round the year risking their lives and property.
The villagers said the incident of death took place when the pregnant mothers could not arrive at the hospitals with delivery pain in due time for want of rod communications. The children in the remote villages are deprived of regular academic facilities for the same, they added.
Jamal union parishad (UP) ward councilor Matiar Rahman, when contacted said the lawmaker of Jhenaidah-4 seat Anwarul Azim Anar had ensured electricity for the people, and he (lawmaker) will also take necessary steps to constructing the road at an early time for the wellbeing of the people of 12 villages.
Chairman of the union parishad Modasser Hossai Mandal when contacted said they local government could not construct the road metal as the road does not carry any identity (ID). He will arrange the ID for the road at an early time to ease the sufferings of the people, UP chairman said.
