‘We want no discrimination’

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Monday said we don’t want any discrimination. 

He said if my house, mosque do not need any safeguard, why should the temple of Hindu brothers need safeguard. We don’t want such discrimination. We want all discrimination should come to an end through the anti-discrimination movement of our children.

The Jamaat Ameer came up with the assertion while speaking as the chief guest at a public meeting organised by Dinajpur North District unit of Jamaat-e-Islami at the field of Dinajpur Institute on Monday morning.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman also said the movement does not belong to any particular group or party. It is movement of mass people. The people came out on the street and made the movement successful. The fight was not done by the people of only one particular religion. If anyone wants to use the movement for their own interest, 18 crore people of the country will prevent them again.

He said we will safeguard the success of this revolution, change and movement achieved by the sacrifice of thousand lives. The nation will not tolerate any insult of this.

Jamaat Ameer also said “We want such a country where people of all religion will live peacefully. As a citizen of this country, wherever (at home and abroad) he goes he will proudly say that I am a citizen of Bangladesh. There will be no need to safeguard of the place of worship of any religion here during special time. Because, here everyone is citizen of Bangladesh by birth. Bangladesh should be a country without any discrimination. We want such a nation who can be proud of us.”

Dinajpur North District unit Ameer Principal Md Anisur Rahman presided over the meeting. Central Assistant Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Maolana Abdul Halim, Central Organising Secretary Principal Maolana Momtaz Uddin and others spoke as special guests.

Leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir of Dinajpur were also present there.

Earlier, Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman went to martyr Rudra Sen’s house in Dinajpur and met with his parents. Rudra Sen was martyred during the anti-discrimination student movement. Besides, the Jamaat Ameer talked to the family members of the martyrs at the meeting and gave Tk 2 lakh cash each of the families of the martyrs.

A total of seven people of Dinajpur were martyred during the anti-discrimination student movement.
