Bidhan Ranjan Roy, Advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (MoPME), has highlighted the urgent need to improve the quality of primary education in the country. He made these comments on Monday while speaking to journalists at the secretariat, marking his first day in office after assuming his new role.
Roy emphasized that primary education is the foundation of any nation. He said, "What children learn in their early years builds their personality. Unfortunately, in our country, primary education is not as effective as it should be."
He acknowledged the progress made in improving the literacy rate, noting that the signature rate was once very low. He attributed this improvement to better infrastructure and increased enrollment in schools. However, he stressed that the focus now should be on enhancing the quality of education. "It is important that our children receive a good education so they can become responsible citizens and contribute to society," he said.
Roy also mentioned that he plans to discuss strategies with his team to address the current challenges. "I will sit with everyone and we will fix the strategy," he added.
Regarding the opening of primary schools, Roy noted that although a decision has been made, it has not yet been fully implemented. When asked about the timeline for implementation, he replied, "We will discuss this matter and then decide."
Roy expressed concerns about the ongoing instability and its impact on education. "The current situation is making people hesitant to send their children to school. Simply announcing the reopening of schools is not enough; we need to address these issues," he said.
The advisor emphasized the importance of creating a safe and stable environment to encourage parents to send their children to school.
