“I and my administration will be transparent, impartial and student-friendly. Besides those who directly worked for the dictator and encouraged them, I don't want to see them on campum. Everyone must move together to resist dictatorship and achieve success together”, said the newly appointed Jagannath University Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim, in a meeting with representatives of the Jagannath University Reform Movement at the central auditorium of the university on Wednesday.
Regarding the hall and accommodation crisis, he expressed his frustration. He said that he is planning for accommodation to be arranged in the new campus though it is not easy to accommodate ten thousand students. What has not happened in 19 years might not happen in a month.
About the university's place in the negative side of the graph he said, “The ACs in our auditorium are obsolete. We are not even at zero, we are already at the negative point. Because in order to install new ACs, the obsolete ACs must be removed and the dangerous buildings have to be demolished to make new buildings.”
Regarding the second campus, the Vice chancellor said that he has discussed the master plan. “With the appointment of the consultant, the work of the second campus will be handed over to the army. I met with the education advisor and secretary about the campus construction period. I told them that the construction has not been done on time; the duration should be increased a little. They assured us about the duration extension”, he added.
“I have already said that student politics will not be stopped but the culture of student politics will be changed. Party-based student politics will not have a place here. JnUCSU will be implemented as soon as possible. Then we will have a specific window that we can work with”, the Vice-chancellor said about the election of the student union.
However about the next convocation he said, if possible then he could hold the next convocation in the second campus. If we can do the groundwork in time then we will do the next convocation there.
In that meeting, university Registrar, Proctor, Hall Provost, Director of Student Welfare and the representatives were present.
