Due to heavy rain and onrush water from hill, the water level of Jamuna river in Sirajganj has been rising for the past few days.

In the last 12 hours until Friday, the water of Jamuna has increased by 15 and 20 cm at two points of Sirajganj. It is flowing 38 cm above at Sirajganj city point and 32 cm above at Kazipur point.

Apart from this, due to the increase in water in Jamuna, the water in all the rivers of the district is also increasing. Besides, the water of beel area is also increasing. New low-lying areas have started going under water every day. At the same time, farmers' vegetables, seedbeds and various crops including paddy are being damaged due to the rising water. Besides, river erosion of Jamuna has been experienced in some parts of the district.

Sirajganj Water Development Board sub-divisional engineer Ranjit Kumar on Friday morning said that the water level of Jamuna river was recorded as 13.28 meters at Rakkha Dam hard point in Sirajganj city at 6:00am. In the last 12 hours it has increased by 15 cm and is flowing over 38 cm of latitude (latitude 12.90 meters). On the other hand, the water level was recorded at 15.12 meters at Meghai Ghat point in Kazipur. At this point, 20 cm rose in 12 hours and the river is flowing 32 cm below the equator (the equator is 14.80 m).

Ranjit Kumar also said that even if the water rises, there is no danger of heavy flooding at the moment. The water is rising due to the upstream hill slopes and rains. The water will increase till July 8, then it is likely to decrease. Geotubes are also being laid in erosion prone areas to prevent erosion.
