Elon Musk’s vision of turning Mars into a habitable world faces a major setback with a new discovery about the red planet’s water.

Recent findings from NASA’s Mars Insight mission reveal vast quantities of water trapped deep underground, up to 20 kilometres beneath the surface, far beyond the reach of current drilling technology.

Musk’s bold plans for Mars, which include using nuclear explosions to vaporise frozen CO2 and water to create an atmosphere, have been criticised as unrealistic by scientists.

The new data suggests that Mars once had flowing water but has since lost it due to a lack of atmospheric pressure. This discovery challenges Musk’s ambitions of terraforming the planet and building a Martian city.

While Musk’s SpaceX aims to land on Mars and establish a colony, experts argue that the current scientific understanding and technology are not sufficient to overcome the challenges of creating a livable environment on Mars.

As Musk continues to pursue his dream of dying on Mars, the scientific community remains sceptical about the feasibility of his vision.
