Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said all have to wait to learn about the outcome of President's ongoing dialogue on the formation of the Election Commission (EC).
"Only after the steps taken by the President after the conclusion of the dialogue, you would be able to say whether it was a success or failure. Till then, you all have to wait," he said.
The minister said these after exchanging pleasantries of the New Year with the officials of the ministry and journalists at his office Sunday noon. Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwer, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Secretary Md Moinul Kabir were present at the time, among others.
Replying a question on the recent comment of former adviser to the caretaker government Dr Akbar Ali Khan on the ongoing dialogue, the law minister said people have freedom of speech here, adding: "Any person can
express his views. I think he expressed his personal views and that he can do." Urging BNP to join the dialogue, Anisul Huq said country comes before anything.
"If you join the dialogue, it would be beneficial for you (BNP), it would be beneficial for all. But if BNP doesn't do that, it's their decision," he
added.
Reiterating his comment that there is no time left for an act to be formulated now for formation of the next EC, the law minister also said, "I
didn't said that the law would never be formulated, but we need such an act which will be acceptable to all."
