Voluntary organizations Darpan and Dwip Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd have distributed relief items among the families affected by the recent floods in Cox's Bazar.
These relief items were distributed in various unions of Chakaria upazila on Friday.
Jahangir Alam, Chakaria Upazila Cooperative Officer, initiated the distribution of relief goods this morning. The organization's president Dr. Tejendra Lal Dey, executive director Tapas Kanti Rudra, director Shusen Rudra, Bikash Rudra, Ali Ahmed and officials Nayan Rudra, Prakriti Rudra, Anjaman Ara Sathi and other officials of various levels of the organization were present.
Tapas Kanti Rudra, the executive director of the organization, said that in the last month of August, the heavy rains and the water from the mountains flooded the various unions of the upazila. The people of marginal towns were affected. Out of them, about 500 affected families were given relief items including rice, pulses, oil and various food items. Voluntary organizations have been doing various social works since the formation of Darpan and Dwip. He also said that this program will continue.
Dr. Tejendra Lal Dey, president of the organization, said that the voluntary organization Darpan and Dwip was established in 2010. Since then we have been carrying out various activities including disaster
management, social development, sanitation, community development and lending.
In continuation of this, this organization stands by the families affected by the recent terrible floods. We have distributed relief items to about 500 families since the flood till date. In the past, we have also stood by the victims of floods.
