Garment sector is completely a ‘time-bound’ industry so failing to export within the buyer’s specified lead time, the factories concerned must face severe financial losses, said speakers at a view exchange meeting. .
The meeting took place at the conference room of BGMEA regional office, Chattogram on Wednesday with the leaders of Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association and Chattogram Customs Agents Association.
BGMEA Ctg center organized the meeting mainly to discuss on proper operation of the import and export activities of the garment industry during any unstable situation of the country.
Syed Nazrul Islam, First Vice-President of BGMEA, addressing the meeting, said that the garment industry become woerst sufferer in any disastrous situation of the country as it is dependent on foreign buyers. “In the recent turbulent country’s RMG suffered ireperable loss of image to the international buyers also incurred direct loss of Tk more than 1600 crore daily”, Nazrul said.
In order to overcome this loss and sustain the garment industry in the competitive world market, he called upon the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association and the Chattogram Customs Agents Association to work in unison with relentless efforts of Chattogram Port, Customs, all related public and private departments.
He expressed hope that the garment industry of the country will move forward again with the sincere cooperation of all the stakeholders as in the past.
BGMEA Vice-president Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, director- M. Ehsanul Haq, Mohammad Musa, Amjad Hossain Chowdhury, Mostafa Sarwar Riyad, Rakib Al Naser, BGMEA former director A.M. Shafiul Karim (Khokon), Chattogram Customs Agents Association President A.K.M. Aktar Hossain, General Secretary Kazi Mahmud Imam Bilu, Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association Amiya Sarkar Barman and Vice President Khairul Alam Sujan and other leaders of both organizations were present.
Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, Vice President of BGMEA, said that the garment industry is a complete ‘time-bound’ industry sector. If it is fail to export within the foreign buyer’s specified lead time, the concerned industry will face severe financial losses.
He expressed great regret over the recent untoward incident and said that such incident is a bad sign for the garment industry. Pointing out that this industry has suffered indescribable damage, he said that in the future, we must work unitedly to sustain this industry for the greater interest of the national economy.
