Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman emphasized the necessity of complying with court orders, addressing students involved in the quota reform movement.
He sternly warned that any actions disrupting law and order would not be tolerated.
During a virtual appearance at the ‘Walton-CRAB Sports Festival 2024 and Fruit Festival’, DMP Commissioner said this to journalists’ questions held at the CRAB premises in Segunbagicha on Friday. Social Welfare Minister Dr. Dipu Moni virtually inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
Habibur Rahman said that the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division has issued a one-month stay order on the High Court’s decision regarding the quota system in government jobs.
He said, “The quota system in government jobs is a matter for the courts. Everyone should have faith in and respect for the judiciary. It is obligatory to follow court orders, and I believe it is everyone’s duty to do so.”
He added, “Any activities that violate law and order will not be tolerated.”
Addressing journalists, DMP Commissioner acknowledged their role in ensuring justice through investigative reporting and expressed gratitude for their contributions to law enforcement efforts.
Social Welfare Minister Dr. Dipu Moni while speaking virtually said, “Journalists have always been vigilant in exposing the truth. They have countered misinformation both locally and internationally through their writings. The Prime Minister values freedom of expression and works to ensure it.”
CRAB President Kamruzzaman Khan expressed gratitude to journalists and guests for attending despite inclement weather and waterlogging.
He also thanked Walton for sponsoring the sports festival.

The event, moderated by CRAB Sports and Cultural Secretary Rakibul Islam Manik, featured speeches from DRU President Shukkur Ali Shuvo, BFUJ Treasurer and former CRAB President Khairuzzaman Kamal, senior journalist and former CRAB President Parvez Khan, former CRAB Presidents Abul Khair, Mirza Mehedi Tamal, and Isharf Hossain Isa.
Special guests included Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC Senior Executive Director FM Iqbal Bin Anwar (Don) and Senior Deputy Executive Director Md. Rabiul Islam Milton.
