Victory Day observed in districts

People in all walks of life celebrated the Victory Day on Saturday paying rich tributes to the martyrs for their supreme sacrifice during the Liberation War in 1971.

To mark the day, different organisations including government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, educational institutions, political parties and professional bodies observed different programmes honouring their national heroes. 

Jhenaidah Correspondent says: The Victory Day was observed in Jhenaidah with due honour and festivity. The day’s programme was started with 31 gun salutes at Jhenaidah Police Station premises at the dawn on Saturday. Awami League district unit took out a rally ended at Prerona Ekattor. Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Rafiqul Islam on behalf of the state placed wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman first. Then Police Super Ahsan Ul Azim, AL district unit, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, different media forums, government, non-government and social organizations placed wreaths at the portrait. 

Path Prokashan, a publication organized a unique solo book fair marking the Victory Day on Shailkupa Shaheed Minar premises. Facilitated by Alamgir Aranya, owner of the publication as well as a writer and media activist, veteran freedom fighter, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad Shailkupa thana unit ex-commander Rahmat Ali Mantu inaugurated the book fair where a gathering of the poets and litterateurs was held. 

Chuadanga Correspondent reports: Chuadanga District Administration, District Police Administration, Awami League, Educational institutes, socio-cultural organisations and Upazila Administration observed the Victory Day in a befitting manner on Saturday followed by hoisting of the national flag, placing wreaths at the monument of independence war, discussion meetings, painting competitions, cultural sessions, marathon race, football completion and march past. Improve diet were supplied to the inmates of hospitals, jail and shishu poribar.

Reception was accorded to freedom fighters under the auspices of District Administration.  Deputy Commissioner Dr Kissinger Chakma presented gifts to them at the programme. 

DC Dr Kissinger Chakma and RM Fayejur Rahman, SP took salute at march past at Puraton Stadium in the town. 

A discussion was held at Awmi League Office with Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP, in the chair. Awami League leaders Reazul Islam Joarder Toton, Musi Alamgir Hannan, Adv Shasuzzaha, Alauddin Hela, Abdul Kader and Arifuzzaman Ranju addressed the meeting. 

Manikganj Correspondent says: The Victory Day was celebrated in different part of Manikganj district with much enthusiasm and fresh pledge to uphold the spirit of the hard-earned independence and democracy and eliminate the anti-liberation forces.

The day’s programme began with 31gun salutes at Shaheed Tapan-Miraz Stadium at 6.30 am on December 16. With the rise of the sun, streams of people irrespective of age and sex thronged the town streets leading to the central Shaheed Minar in Manikganj town.

At 7.01 am, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Manikganj Rehena Akter, Police Super Golam Azazd Khan, Mayor of Manikganj Municipality Ramjan Ali, Manikganj district unit of Bangladesh Muktijuddha Sangsad, Freedom Fighters’ Association and Sector Commanders’ Forum Mutijuddha-71, were present. 

Bangladesh AL, led by President Gulam Mohiuddin, its Secretary Advocate Abdus Salam, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Distict Bar Association, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Bangladesh Samaj Tantrik Dal (JSD), Gano Forum, Jatyo Party, Manikganj Press Club, Bangladesh Sangbadik Somitty, Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, Udichi Shilpi Goshthi, Government Devendro Collage, Government Mohila Collage, Colonel Malek Medical College, other political parties, socio-cultural organisatons, educational institutions placed floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar showing respects to the heroes of the liberation war.

The national flag was hoisted formally by DC Rehena Akter at 9.00 am. After hoisting of the national flag, a colorful march past of Police, Ansar, VDP, BNCC, Mukul Fouj, youth organisations and different educational institutions took place at the Shaheed Tapan-Miraz Stadium. The deputy commissioner Rehena Akter and Police Super Golam Azazd Khan took the salute. District and Upazila Administration, different political, socio-cultural and professional organisations chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner.

Among others, Md Yusuf Ali, Chief Executive Officer, MCC, Md Mahbubur Rahman Dulal, Panel Mayor-2 and officials of District Administration, freedom foghters and City Corporation were present in the programme. 

MCC Myaor placed wreaths at the martyrs’ monument in jute godown and mural of Bangabandhu on Joy Bangla premises. He also participated in different political programmes.

Narayanganj Correspondent says: the District Administration, District Police and Civil Surgeon paid respect to the martyred freedom fighters by placing wreath at the memorial tomb of martyrs at Chashara in the city on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner Mahmudul Haque, Police Super Golam Mostofa Russel and Civil Surgeon Mushiur Rahman placed wreaths with all their staff.

The government organization and other social and cultural organizations in the district placed paid tributes to the martyred FFs and organized different programmes including discussion and cultural programmes

Netrakona Correspondent reports: The Victory Day was celebrated in Netrakona on Saturday with great enthusiasm and a renewed pledge to build the country as "Sonar Bangla" as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Netrakona District Administration and different socio-cultural and political organisations including Awami League and educational institutions chalked out different programmes highlighting significance of the day.

The day's programme formally started with booming of a 31-gun salute in the early hours of the day on Netrakona District Collectorate Office premises and placing of wreaths at the memorial monument of martyred freedom fighters on the district collectorate office premises and independence memorial monument in Satpai area here.

State Minister for Social Welfare and valiant freedom fighter Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru at first placed wreaths at the memorial monument of martyred freedom fighters on district collectorate office premises in the morning.

Later, Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali, MP, deputy commissioner (DC) Shahed Parvez, chairman of Zila Parishad Asit Kumar Sarker Sazal, superintendent of police (SP) Foyaz Ahmed and municipality mayor Nazrul Islam Khan placed wreaths at the monument.

People from all walks of life including local public representatives, political leaders, civil society members, students and teachers also placed wreaths at the monuments.

The national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings across the district during sun-rising period.

As part of the day's programme, a combined colorful parade of boys scouts, girl guides, BNCC, police, Ansars, fire service personnel and students and children of different juvenile clubs and educational institutions was held at local stadium in the morning.

 DC Shahed Parvez accompanied by police super Foyaz Ahmed formally took salute at the parade from a decorated rostrum.

 Local administration accorded a reception to the local freedom fighters and family members of martyred freedom fighters at local public hall.

 Improved diets were served to the inmates of the jails, hospitals and orphanage children and family centers in the district.

  Besides, Netrakona District Information Office arranged screening of documentary film shows on 'Liberation War' for the people in Netrakona central Shaheed minar and Muktarpara ground in the district town.

Netrakona Shilpakala academy arranged a musical soiree based on 'patriotic songs' at local public hall here in the evening on the occasion.

Besides, special prayers were offered in all the mosques including Netrakona central Jam-e-mosque, temples, churches and other places of worships across the district seeking divine blessings for eternal peace of the departed soul of martyred freedom fighters and progress and prosperity of the nation.

BSS from Khulna adds: People in all walks of life in Khulna celebrated the Victory Day on Saturday paying rich tributes to martyrs for their supreme sacrifice during the Liberation War in 1971.

To mark the day, different organizations including government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, educational institutions, political parties and professional bodies observed different programmes honouring their national heroes during Liberation War, waving national flags, singing patriotic songs and calling out to defeat militant forces and those who are trying to foil the country's independence and sovereignty while resisting all kinds of communal forces.

Khulna district administration celebrated Bangalees glorious victory over the Pakistani occupation forces, pledging to establish a non-communal prosperous and developed Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation war.

The day was heralded by a 31-gun salute at dawn at the Khulna Police Line Ground.

Khulna divisional commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif hoisted the national flag at Khulna District Stadium and took salute from the parade.

Khulna Shishu Academy organized an art and painting competition for children on the occasion.

A reception to the freedom fighters and sons and daughters of martyred freedom fighters was held at the Khulna Shilpakola Academy.

People in all walks of life placed wreaths at the Gallamary monument on the day.

Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country.

Improved diet has been served at all hospitals, orphanage centers and jail to mark the day.

State-run Khulna Betar is broadcasting special programmes while the local newspapers published special supplements on the occasion.

Khulna BISIC has organized two-day handicraft fair at Khulna Public hall. A discussion meeting on life and sketch of Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin will be held at Rupsha Ghat area on December 17.

Khulna city and district unit Awami League celebrated the victory day with befitting manner.

A colourful victory rally was brought out in the city that paraded main streets and ended at the party office followed by a discussion meeting.

Chaired by Khulna City Unit Awami League president Talukder Abdul Khaleque, State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian, MP, addressed the meeting as the chief guest while Sheikh Salah Uddin Jewel, MP, central organizing secretary of AL S M Kamal Hossain, addressed as special guests.

The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Khulna district unit AL president Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, city unit general secretary MDA Babul Rana, and district unit AL general secretary Advocate Sujit Adhikary.

 Khulna University (KU), Khulna University and Engineering Technology (KUET), Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), 1971: Genocide and Torture Archive Museum, Mongla Port Authority (MPA), West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd (OZOPADICO), Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Ltd and different socio-cultural and political parties celebrated the day in befitting manner.
