The victory was won for the blood of three million martyrs and the glory of two million mothers and sisters. The final victory was achieved on 16 December 1971 with the surrender of the Pakistani army. Various programs are undertaken in Sylhet on the occasion of this days. The Great Victory Day was celebrated in Sylhet with due dignity.
To pay respect to the martyrs of freedom on Victory Day, people started coming to Shahid Minar in the early morning on Friday. Shahid Minar is covered with flowers. As the day progressed, the crowd at Shahid Minar also increased.
In memory of the best children of the nation, the implementation council of Shahid Minar first offered floral tributes. Then Mukti Jodha Sangsad. Later Sylhet Divisional Commissioner, District Commissioner, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, SP RRF Commandant, SP APBN.
The District and Metropolitan Awami League, District and Metropolitan BNP, National Party, National Samaj Tantric Dal Jasad, Basod, Workers Party, Samyavadi Dal, Swachhasebak League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Press Club, Electronic Media Journalists Association (IMZA), Photojournalists Association, Sylhet Chamber Of Commerce, Roads Department, Ansar and Village Defense Forces, Udichi Artists Group, Students Union, Students Front social, cultural and professional organizations one by one laid wreaths at Shahid Minar. Also, floral tributes were offered at Shahid Minar on the initiative of Sylhet's private university, medical college, various educational institutions, government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, and private institutions.
aOn the 51st Victory Day, the altar of Shahid Minar is filled with flowers with respect and love for the martyrs.
A parade and display exhibition was organized at the Sylhet District Stadium on Victory Day. Students of various educational institutions participated in it.
Victory Day is also being celebrated in the educational institutions of Sylhet. All the institutions including Shahjalal Science and Technology University, Sylhet Medical University, Sylhet Agricultural University, Metropolitan University, Leading University, North East University, Sylhet International University, Osmani Medical College, MC College, Government College, Government Women's College were illuminated and the flag hoisted. Besides, victory rallies, cultural programs, and discussion meetings were organized.
Apart from this, various cultural and social organizations organize various events throughout the day. Samilito Natya Parishad Sylhet staged recitals, dances, music, and plays throughout the day.
