Local influential people and the case investigator were allegedly forcing an attempt-to -rape case victim and her family members to settle the issue by offering her to pay Taka 1.5 lakh in instalments in Narayanganj.
It is learnt, a poor female six year aged child is an attempt-to-rape victim. She and her family were under pressure by the local arbitrators and the case investigator with a proposal to negotiate and she was forced to sign some papers at a lawyer's chamber. But the victim did not understand on what statement she put the signature as she is illiterate.
On the day of bail hearing, the relative and local influential of the arrested accused confined the attempt to rape victim and took some signature of her on the court papers and the accused was granted bail by the court on January 2, 2020.
In the name of the accused and her mother, a bank cheque against savings account no-1791 of Rupali Bank Limited, cheque no-SBLT 0040134 of Taka one lakh was issued and signed without any date.
According to sources a Six-years old a girl child was attempted to rape by a man at Khilmarket area under Fatulla police station on 23 October 2019.
Victim’s mother filed a case (no 68) with Fatulla model police station accusing Helal Mahmud, son of Ali Ahmed, resident of Khilmarket area of the thana in this connection.
Locals held the accused and handed him over to police soon after the incident.
A case was filed under Woman and Child Repression Prevention Act and sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman was appointed as the case investigator by the thana.
According to the statement of the victims family, the case investigator pressurized them to negotiate with the accused as against the money.
The case investigator told the victim's family that they were poor persons so they have no ability to deal the case thus better they should take some money from the accused and settle the matter.
Victim’s family is hailed from Rangpur district and live at khilmarket area as a tenant. Father of the victim is a rickshaw puller.
When tried to contact to the case investigator over cell phone over proposal to pay money to the case victim, he ignored phone call.
The victim's family member added that they live from hand to mouth and they were under constant pressure to settle the case from both some locals and the case investigator.
Victims father, a three wheeler driver told the Bangladesh Post that he wants justice but the locals led by one Sanaullah put pressure on them as they were poor as well as not permanent resident. He also told that the role of the principal witness Sujon was also mysterious.
