Vandalism of Bangabandhu’s sculpture protested

The Islamic University Teachers’ Association (IUTA) on Tuesday protested the vandalism of a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.

More than 50 teachers and officials formed a human chain at the feet of ‘Mrittunjoyee Mojib’ mural adjacent to the university main entrance area around 10:30am.

IU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shaikh Abdus Salam addressed the protest as the chief guest while pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman and former treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha were the special guests with Prof Dr Kazi Akther Hossain in the chair

Addressing the programme, IU VC Prof Salam said “Bangabandhu and Bangladesh are inseparable. It is impossible to destroy the Himalayas by scratching the Himalayas.”

Prof Shahinoor Rahman said the defeated power of the 1971 Liberation Was vandalised Bangabandhu’s sculpture. 

Those perpetrators have no right to live in Bangladesh and they must face punishment, he said condemning the vandalism of other sculptures.

Former pro-VC Prof Dr M Kamal Uddin, IU registrar in charge SM Abdul Latif, IU Bangabandhu Parishad president Prof Dr Mahbubur Rahman, its secretary Prof Dr M Mahbubul Arfin, Shapla Forum unit president Prof Dr M Rezuanul Islam, its secretay Mahbubar Rahman attended the programme, among others.
