Exclusive: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore explains how the Valentina cameo came about and the similarities between her and Fury.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore reveals who came up with the idea for the Valentina cameo and explains her dangerous similarities to Nick Fury. Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine made her MCU debut in The Falcon And The Winter Soldier rebranding John Walker as U.S. Agent and recruiting him to a new team she is building. She appeared again in the Black Widow post-credit scene directing Yelena Belova, who has been working for her, toward Clint Barton.
Her latest appearance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever reveals that Valentina is the Director of the CIA and sets her up as a powerful figure with her own team of highly trained and powered individuals in Thunderbolts.
Screen Rant spoke with Moore about the surprise appearance of Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Moore shared that Valentina's connection to Everett Ross was actually Ryan Coogler's idea. He also compared Valentina to Phase One Nick Fury while hinting that this may be dangerous for the MCU.
Certainly, this is not the last time you will see Valentina. I think now, clearly, she and Ross might find themselves at different tables at the same restaurant. The detail about their past relationship was something Ryan thought would be really fun and interesting to explore. Hopefully, we'll get to build on that. But with Valentina, much like Nick Fury in Phase One, we're slowly building the story of a woman who maybe has her finger in more pies than you think. And we'll just see if that's a good thing or a bad thing for the MCU.
While Valentina's connection to Ross is funny, it also sets up an interesting dynamic. Valentina showed off exactly why she is running one of the United States' most powerful intelligence agencies. Her ability to strategize and fool someone close to her is impressive and allowed her to procure valuable intelligence. Moore comparing Valentina to Nick Fury is not a unique idea, but the question of how this will impact the MCU is intriguing.
