Despite difficulties, vaccines for coronavirus have reached all the centres in remote areas of Chattogram hill tracts and the isolated coastal regions ahead of the nation-wide vaccination programme starting on February 7.
Health workers and volunteers are already being trained on the vaccination procedures against coronavirus. In addition to the sub-district health centers, an initiative has been taken to provide vaccines in two special places in Chattogram Hill Tract or CHT, said the officials of the Health Department.
Arrangements are being made for vaccination in 16 centers of the Chattogram city and 16 upazila health centers in the district. However, the number of people to receive the vaccines has not yet been confirmed.
“People registering online would get vaccines,” said Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, Civil Surgeon of Chattogram.
“A total of 16 vaccination centers have already been set up in Chattogram metropolis, 67 vaccination teams have been prepared for this. Each team has two health workers and four volunteers. Although the immunization program will be similar to the EPI program, special training is being given to health workers and volunteers for the corona vaccine as an additional precaution,” said Mohammad Ali, Assistant Health Officer, Chattogram City Corporation.
Meanwhile, in the hill districts of CHT, vaccines will be given at the same time on February 7. Coronavirus vaccine has also reached the health centers of all islands and coastal areas. Four hundred vaccines have been allocated separately for Bashan Char island in the Bay of Bengal under Noakhali district.
In Bsahan Char, the new settlement for Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals, FDMN Rohingyas, and the Civil Surgeon of Noakhali, will arrange the vaccination programme there very soon.
Vaccination is also underway for front-liner in Rohingya Camps in Cox’s Bazar. The Registered persons involve with humanitarian activities will get vaccine at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, as well as in areas of Ukhiya and Teknaf.
Hasan Shahriar Kabir, health director of the Chattogram division, said, “The corona vaccination programmes can be carried out smoothly as vaccines are already made available in all parts of the country.”
On On January 27, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the coronavirus vaccination programme at Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka. Later, the online vaccine platform's web application (www.surokkha.gov.bd) opened to a limited scale for completing vaccine registration
