The government is putting more emphasis on vaccination so that educational institutions do not have to close down due to increasing Covid-19 infections.

Education Minister Dipu Moni made the comment while talking to reporters after the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Imperial College in the capital's Aftab Nagar on Saturday.

The education minister said, “The government does not want to close educational institutions. That is why it is being decided to put more emphasis on vaccination activities. However, it is not yet possible to bring primary level students under it.”

The minister said educational institutions had to be closed for the last one and a half years due to the pandemic. The government does not want to close the educational institutions again. For this reason, more importance is being given to jabbing that would make the students immune and prevent harm from the virus through vaccination.

However, it is possible to bring students from the age of 12 under vaccination, but it is a matter of concern now how primary students can also be brought under the vaccination programme.

Dipu Moni said, “If the corona situation deteriorates further, the education sector will suffer the most. If closed, it will once again go into an uncertain state of how long it may stay closed. That is why we want to bring students under vaccination and continue teaching in educational institutions.”

Earlier, in her speech as the chief guest, the education minister said that according to the new curriculum, education should be skill dependent. Test reliance and certification alone are not everything. The focus is on the quality of education. Certain educational standards need to be met in order to achieve sustainable development goals.

"We have to learn how to solve problems. There must be honesty, humanity and patriotism. Otherwise, the acquired education will have no value. Poverty should not stand in the way of any student's higher education,” said the minister.

Vice Chancellor of National University Prof Mashiur Rahman spoke, among others, on the occasion.
