The campaign to vaccinate school students, aged between 12 and 17, against Covid-19 is going on in full swing in capital Dhaka and other metropolitan cities in the country. But the Covid restrictions are being violated utterly everywhere due to inadequate venues.

It has been noticed that the students in large number from different schools across the capital Dhaka and other metropolitan cities are thronging their respective venues to get vaccinated every day since the beginning of the campaign. Vaccination in crowded venues can pose potential risks of infection among the students and their guardians. The guardians of the students expressed utter resentment, urging the authorities to increase the number of venue to avert such crowded place which may cause spreading coronavirus like wildfire across the country.

The students are being given Pfizer vaccine. However, the authorities concerned said air condition system is needed for vaccination of Pfizer jabs so that they have set up vaccination centers which have only air condition facility. Initially, the campaign began in capital Dhaka and other metropolitan cities and it (campaign) will be conducted across the country in phases.

The government must monitor the overall situation very carefully and devise measures to make vaccination campaign safe and hassle free. The coronavirus pandemic has battered country’s educational activities with the closure of educational institutes affecting regular learning activities of four crore students. Therefore, the government started vaccinating the university students at first. All the students of public and private universities have already got vaccinated and now the school students are being vaccinated.

The Covid-19 pandemic is far from over, the World Health Organisation says, cautioning against a narrative that the fast-spreading Omicron variant is risk-free. Besides, the number of Covid-19 cases continues rising readily in recent days as many fresh infected patients are being reported from different parts of the country every day. Therefore, we hope the authorities will be advancing continuously in order to complete inoculation campaign for students in a disciplined way.  Also,  students who are yet to get the jabs should take the vaccine immediately. In this regard, department concerned should carry out motivational campaign so that students receive vaccines.
