Upazila Parishad elections were held peacefully in different upazilas in several districts of the country on Monday. The voting started at 9:00am, and continued till 5:00pm. In Noakhali, Kabirhat Upazila Parishad elections ended amid much enthusiasm, reports our Noakhali Correspondent.
Voters were seen casting their votes with festivity. The presence of number of female voters were more than male voters. There are a total of 1, 46, 231 voters at seven unions and a municipal at Kabirhat upazila. A total of nine candidates-- three chairman candidates, three vice-chairman candidates and three female vice-chairman candidates-- contested in this upazila election.
Awami League candidate Kamrun Nahar Sheuly Ekram with boat symbol and independent candidate Alabox Taher Titu with pineapple symbol contested for the post of chairman. Voting also took place at Satkania upazila in Chattogram and Kotchandpur and Moheshpur upazilas in Jhenidah.
In Satkania upazila, presence of voters has been very low since voting began in the morning. In Kotchandpur upazila, voters were coming to cast their votes at the polling stations since this morning. Meanwhile, the polls in Nabinagar pourasava in Brahmanbaria district were also held on Monday. Electronic Voting Machines were used to cast votes in 12 centres in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.
In Chapainawabganj, three candidates contested for the chairman post in Sadar upazila. They are Najrul Islam of Awami League, Tasikul Islam of BNP and independent candidate Ziaur Rahman.
