A team of jute scientists of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute visited the field exhibition in order to inspect and monitor the field level performance of the new Tosha Jute variety BJRI Tosha Jute-8 (Robi-1) developed by Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI).
The team was led by Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Md. Ayub Khan. Last Tuesday (June 17) and Wednesday (June 18), he visited the exhibitions set up in different blocks of Mohinanda Union in Sadar upazila of Kishoreganj district and West Dipeshwar area of Hossainpur upazila.
The scientists gave directional advice to the jute growers on various techniques including modern techniques of jute cultivation and jute seed production and observed the field level performance of new varieties of jute.
Dr. Md. Ayub Khan emphasized modern technology in jute digestion to maintain the quality of jute. Jute farmers are hopeful that the yield of new varieties of jute will be much higher than other varieties.
Also present at the occasion were Kishoreganj Jute Research Regional Center Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Mohammad Ashraful Alam, Head Office Scientific Officer Biswajit Kundu, Kishoreganj Jute Research Regional Center Seientific Officer Md. Abul Bashar, and Kishoreganj Jute Research Regional Center Seientific Officer Ranjan Chandra Das.
Everyone hopes that the golden days will come back. However, the farmers have repeatedly requested the government to ensure a fair price for jute and if they ensure a fair price for jute, they want to increase the cultivation of jute. Jute Research Regional Center Kishoreganj and Department of Jute Farming Systems, Bangladesh Jute Research Institute are working on the implementation of the exhibition.
It may be mentioned that agricultural materials (seeds, fertilizers), agricultural implements (spades, buckets, umbrellas, plows) and financial assistance have already been provided to the farmers.
