Urology is a rapidly changing segment of medical science, so the persons concerned need to be aware and skilled with the latest developed methods and technologies, and there should be initiative for ensuring this from both public and private sector. Speakers came up with the information at an international scientific conference organized by Bangladesh Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) at a city hotel on Sunday.
They urged the government to open full-fledged urological units at every Medical College and hospital in the country to ensure the treatment for general people. The number of Doctors and treatment facilities for Urological patients in Bangladesh is much less against the huge number of patients.
The two-day international conference named ‘14th BAUS CON-2020’ in association with “urological Association of Asia’, ‘Asian School of Urology’, ‘Urological Association of India’, ‘American Urological Association’, and ‘Society of International Urology’ was held at the Hotel Intercontinental. Health Minister Zahid Maleque MP inaugurated the conference as chief guest while Secretary, Health Services Division, Ashadul Islam, Public Administration Secretary, Shaikh Yusuf Harun, Secretary, Medical Education and Family Welfare Division, attended the ceremony as special guests.
President of BAUS, Prof. Kazi Rafiqul Abedin presided over the opening ceremony while general Secretary, BAUS, Dr. Md. Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury delivered welcome speech. Health Minister said Bangladesh is advancing rapidly in the medical science. The present government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has taken a number of pragmatic policies to expedite the ongoing development process in the health sector. He also said the government has already appointed many Doctors aiming to meet the needs of people and has created many new posts for Doctors in different disciplines in healthcare including Urology.
Secretary Ashadul Islam expressed his hope that the country’s Urological Surgeons will do their best for the wellbeing of the country as well as to improve their professional skill. Public Administration Secretary, Shaikh Yusuf Harun said the government has taken many initiatives to improve the health service system where Urology has also been given special emphasize.
BAUS President said BAUS usually organize this conference mainly to create an opportunity to exchange experience and share knowledge about the latest development and innovations in the field of Urological treatment in developed countries. More than a hundred of Urology Surgeons, experts, students from home and abroad took part in the two day conference.
The conference ended on Sunday through a concluding session, held at the same venue.
