UP member shot dead in Bandarban

A member of Ward No 5 under Kuhalong union in Bandarban Sadar upazila has been shot dead by armed youths. The incident took place at Bakichhara in Kuhalang union of Sadar upazila on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Chain Sahla Marma, 38.

Quoting locals, Kuhalong union parishad Chairman Sanupru Marma said an unidentified group of armed youths called him out of his house on Monday evening and shot him in the waist and fled. He was later rescued by the locals and rushed to Bandarban Sadar Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, Abul Kalam, a member of ward member 4 of Kuhalang Union, said China Chahla Marma, died in Patia area at 11pm on the way to Chattogram.

Bandarban Sadar Police Station OC Shahidul Alam Chowdhury said, "The identities of the armed youths are still unknown. I will be able to give further details after investigating the incident."

Incidentally, there has been a long-running conflict between the Chattogram Hill Tracts Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) and the Mugh Party in Kuhalang Union. Locals think that this rivalry might be the cause of this murder.
